Review: Etude House Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream
Etude House Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream
Finding the best moisturiser for your skin can make or break a skincare regimen, and with so many options available, finding it can be challenging. No matter what skin type we have, we need to restore our skin's natural moisture barrier in order to keep the skin from drying out and keep it functioning at its peak. Healthy skin is hydrated skin!
I've been
testing the Etude House Soonjung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream for the past two
weeks as I look for a new moisturiser. What are you waiting for if you haven't
tried the Soonjung line from Etude House? The Soonjung line has been raved
about for its super gentle formulation that works on sensitive skin types for
an affordable price. The Soonjung Toner and Hydro Barrier Cream worked wonders
on my skin when I needed to reset my skincare routine, so I was excited to
receive the Barrier Intensive Cream to try out.
Ingredients
Water,
Propanediol, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride,
Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate,
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetearyl Alcohol, Panthenol, Madecassoside,
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Potassium Carbomer, Xanthan
Gum, Butylene Glycol, Disodium Edta
The Soonjung 2x
Barrier Intensive Cream has a very straightforward and minimum ingredient list
that is perfect for all skin types, particularly sensitive skin.
All skin types
can benefit from sunflower seed oil, which is nutritious, non-irritating, and doesn't
clog pores. It is also a fantastic source of vitamin E, which can soothe skin
inflammation. Another emollient hydrator that is frequently used to feed the
skin and is particularly effective for dry skin types is shea butter. To aid in
the healing and restoration of a compromised skin barrier, panthenol and
madecassoside give soothing and protective properties.
Formulation: Free of silicones, sulphates, mineral oil, artificial fragrance, parabens, harsh alcohols, and common allergies.
Potential irritants: Cetearyl alcohol, a highly popular fatty alcohol ingredient in moisturisers, may irritate very sensitive skin types. If you have an allergy, you should patch test it first.
Texture:
Contrary to what you may expect, this intense cream's texture is not at all
thick. It produces a moisturising barrier on your skin and has a lovely
consistency that is exceptionally emollient and spreadable. You'll need to wait
a few minutes for it to fully absorb if you're using it for daytime wear before
applying makeup.
Scent: Fragrance-free
Main pros: The cream has a fantastic texture and is mild but really hydrating.
The final phase of sealing in serums or therapies is excellent. I frequently
use this in addition to my BHA toner and have not experienced any discomfort.
The package with the twist cap and the formulation are both extremely well
thought out! My new HG is it.
In comparison
to The Ordinary NMF + HA and Laneige Water Bank moisturiser, I greatly prefer
this cream for my combination skin; but, if you have extremely dry skin, you
may need something even more hydrating in the winter, such as the Tatcha Dewy
Skin Cream.
Cons: It takes
a little while to absorb into the skin and leaves a small sticky residue. Since
it's supposed to be more dewy/moisture-intensive, in my opinion, this is really
not a significant con at all. However, if you have oily skin and are seeking
for something lighter, I would steer clear of this.
Does Soon Jung
2x Barrier Cream contain any oil?
No, it contains
sunflower seed oil, which after application makes the skin feel a little
sticky. Normal/dry skin types are the ideal candidates because oily skin types
might not prefer the more emollient feel.
I advise trying
the water-based and more lightweight Tatcha Water Cream if you have oily skin
(review here).
What about Soon
Jung barrier cream?
I've tried a
lot of moisturizers over the years, but the Soon Jung 2x Barrier Cream is one
of the best (I have combo skin). It doesn't irritate or cause acne and has a
short, clean ingredient list.
I will definitely recommend it to everyone with oily to combination skin.
